Though you should ease up on the amount of cosmetics you use in the summer, it doesn't mean you need to skip makeup altogether. If you can't bear the thought of going without makeup, use these fabulous beauty products to look beautiful and natural.
SUMMER BEAUTY PRODUCTS
Tinted moisturizer
Liquid foundation is heavy. Try to avoid it if you can. If you really must use base makeup, apply a to even out your skintone rather than your normal foundation. Try Almay Smart Shade makeup.
A touch of bronzer
Use a little bronzer to get a healthy glow if you haven't had any sun yet this season. Apply where the sun naturally hits your face - your forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. Use a very thin, fan-shaped brush to get light, subtle coverage. If you use bronzer, skip blush. If you aren't using bronzer, a light apricot or peach blush is an ideal choice. Try Clinique's True Bronze Pressed Powder.
Powder eyeliner
Eyeliner oftentimes smudges very easily in the heat and humidity. If you must line your eyes, use a powder eye shadow rather than pencil or liquid liner. With the tip of a very small slanted brush, apply dark shadow in a thin line to define your lash line. If you are going in the water, skip the liner or use a waterproof instead. Try Lancome's long lasting eyeliner.
Light eye shadow
Eye shadows crease and melt with perspiration, heat and humidity. If you want to wear eyeshadow, make sure to apply a primer first to keep your shadow in place. Choose light eye shadow colors that are close to your skin tone. Vanilla or gold shadow can give you good color without looking too made-up.
Tinted lipbalm
Skip the lipstick and choose a light lipgloss or tinted lip balm instead. Lip conditioners are a fantastic choice for summer, providing sun protection as well as sexy hint of color and gloss. Try Alba Terra Tint Lip Balms.
Waterproof mascara
Make sure to use a waterproof formula if you want to wear mascara. Use brown-black rather jet black and only apply one coat. Use mascara only on your top lashes for a natural look this summer. Try Cover Girl Lash Blast mascara.
EXPERT SUMMER MAKEUP TIPS
Celebrity makeup artist Rebecca Borman has extensive experience in the world of television through her career as a makeup artist for "The View". She also toughed it out in the wilds of the South Pacific as a contestant on "Survivor: Cook Island." The Emmy Award-winning makeup artist knows how to protect and keep women's skin beautiful all summer long.
Protect against bugs
Rebecca recommends using OFF! Smooth & Dry for insect protection this summer. It goes on dry and smells great, perfect for outdoor summer parties day and night. You don't want to ruin your beautiful summer skin with insect bites!
Use mineral based powders
Rebecca says if you are using a powder bronzer for extra glow this summer try a mineral powder! "Bare Escentuals has a great line of natural powders that are mineral based. They are great conditioners and moisturizers for the skin," explains Borman. "If your still going to tan, which I never recommend, than you must condition your skin and adding minerals to your makeup really works. Give your face the vitamins it needs which the sun takes away!"
Experiment with pink and nude tones
According to celebrity makeup artist Belinda Moss, pink and nude lip colors should also be paired with a clean, natural looking face. She recommends using a face powder to even out one's skin tone with a natural-looking finish instead of lots of blush. "Be sure to apply this powder with a brush -- this will help create a more natural look. To help contour the cheeks, use a pink powder blush. When applying blush, always remember to lightly sweep across only the apples of the cheeks." says Moss.
Aim for a sun-kissed glow
For those looking for a sun-kissed glow, Moss recommends substituting the pink blush for a mocha shade, and to lightly dust the make-up all over the face, especially the cheeks and nose.
Try an all natural line
Pamela Cronan-Maddox, previous owner of an online apothecary selling all-natural beauty products, also chimed in with her recommendations for summer makeup.
"Natural beauty begins with a smooth, shine-free, seemingly poreless canvas. I use 100% pure, mineral foundation powder to impart a feather-light, matte finish and even my skin tone. For a naturally radiant flush without tanning, I use blush powder mixed with a radiance or bronzer. For a healthy, sun-kissed effect, I add a touch to my eyelids and lips, as well. For my lips, I use pale, matte shades in nourishing, 100% pure creamy formulas to add the beautiful, finishing touch."
